Dayton Terrace

Not far out from Newark city center sits an entire residential neighborhood (12 large sized apartments plus amenities and power station) abandoned since the early 2000s. While checking out the various streets and alleyways with JMZ, we encountered multiple squatters who kept an close eye on our presence,

In the central area, we saw trash bag piles resembling small hills, some even reaching two-three stories tall.  Further down the road, armed guards conducted their regular patrols of the area, providing security for some development company's employees while they carried out land surveys at the time.

Despite all the chaos and rubble, solar powered street lamps still remain operational in most areas, the local inhabitants have managed to hook up electric cables to them for much needed power.
